Congenital Hearing Loss could be genetic or non-genetic. Genetic hearing loss could be syndromal (associated with constellation of signs and symptoms) or non-syndromal (hearing loss occurs in isolation). Genetic hearing loss depending on the Mendellian hereditary type of inheritance could be classified as autosomal dominant deafness (ADD), autosomal recessive deafness(ARD), x-linked deafness(XLD). Non-genetic congenital deafness is often due to prenatal infections(infections that affect the baby while being carried in utero, usually experienced within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy).
